Yr12 NEA practice- group singing sequence
Almost Famous 'Tiny Dancer' scene
American Honey 'American Honey'
_________________________________________________________________________________
Using the above scenes to help, you are each to produce an original scene of a feature film where a group of characters sing a popular song. The conditions are as follows...
- The scene should include a sequence of 15-25 seconds before any singing begins, this could include dialogue, or not, it is up to you. It will however, set the scene... Suggest a genre, key character(s), a location, a reason for the singing...
- The final cut should be a minimum of 2 mins 20 seconds. Therefore, you could finish the whole song if you like, do just a verse and chorus, or end the scene at 2.20...
- It should be clear how the song originates (where it comes from). Either from from a single character's voice or a radio, television, phone etc...and more should join in as the scene progresses. you therefore need to decide whether we hear the original song (quietly) or not...
my suggestion is 1 of the following...
- 1 character is listening on headphones, starts singing and others join in (we don't ever hear the original track this way)
- the song is on in the background (quietly) on radio and 1 character joins in, followed by others...
(we hear the original track but only quietly)
- Your scene should have between 5 and 7 cast members, all should sing... however, some might join in as the song goes on. At least 1 character should be originally reluctant to join in.
- It should be clear from the scene any character roles and functions, binary opposites and indeed the scenes position in the whole film's narrative could be given a guess to.
- You should demonstrate a range of appropriate cinematography and editing techniques throughout.
- You should construct a mise-en-scene that conforms to the conventions of the chosen genre (Daniel Chandler)
- Your song should be 1 of the options below
Do you hear the people sing?
